Romania will stop subsidizing the installation of gas-powered home heating systems by January 1st, 2025. This decision is aligned with a European Union directive aimed at phasing out fossil fuel-based heating systems and transitioning to renewable energy sources. The ban applies to both direct grants and other financial incentives offered by local and national governments.
This prohibits new support for individual gas-powered boilers, although there are exceptions for large-scale commercial gas-powered plants and public building renovation projects where market conditions dictate the acquisition.
The ultimate goal is to completely eliminate fossil fuel-based heating systems by 2040.
